This was such a great list of books! Definitely adding some to my tbr. I keep joking that in my next life I’m coming back as a bibliotherapist. Ellery Adams has an entire cozy mystery series—secret book and scone society—where the main character owns a bookstore, and for anyone who buys books from her, she acts as a bibliotherapist. So, I'm definitely interested in what else you have to say about bibliotheraphy. For some reason, I'm not able to vote in the poll (darn internet connection). In the recent sale, though, I was lucky and bought both Still Water and Shadow in the Woods. I'm excited to read them both. And of course, Writers' Retreat had been on my tbr and was one of my favorite reads for June.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the list of books. It was sort of eclectic as far as the different subgenres of thriller/mystery go, but a lot of fun reading. Thanks for the tip about the Ellery Adams series--I have heard of those but didn't realize she tied in the bibliotherapy thing. That's very cool! I'll have to check them out. One of my close friends (who is a librarian) also believes this would be her dream job like you do. I don't think I'd be very good at it because I'm not well read enough--I tend to stick right in my genres of preference. :) Did you know there are some entry-level courses on this via Udemy? Or was it Skillshare? I can't remember but you might want to check if you're interested in learning more.
And yes, I plan to write more on the topic too, in the future. It's fascinating! Thanks so much for buying not one, not two, but THREE of my books--Wow! I appreciate it. Hope you enjoy the second two you picked up during the sale. :)
Oh my goodness, I didn’t know there were Udemy or Skillshare courses on bibliotherapy…I might have to check that out. I’m also probably not well-read enough, though, especially as I prefer to read 20th C books. And I often can’t remember book titles or what I’ve read unless I refer back to my notes Lol! And yes, I’m excited to read your other books! I’m saving the next two I have for when I need propulsive page turners that keep me up at night with the lights on but not because I’ve had nightmares. I read Writers’ Retreat right after DNFing 2 very popular, very hyped thrillers. It restored my faith in Thriller writing! Especially because I think you’ve invented the sub genre I needed in the Thriller/Suspense world 🙌☺️
Tell me more about the type of 20th Century books you enjoy most and I'll see if I can think of authors I know whom you might like. It will be like a mini bibliotherapy session! :)
Also, can you recommend other "gentle thrillers" or authors who write books in that sub-sub-genre to me? I'm always looking for more.
And thank you so much for your kindness. I'm so happy my book resonated and restored your faith in the Thriller/Suspense genres ha haaaa!
Oh, love the idea of a mini bibliotherapy session. The two that spring immediately to mind are Rosamunde Pilcher and Marcia Willett as I’ve been reading their backlists.
And I don’t know of any other “gentle thriller” authors per se. Most are thriller authors that I just happen to be able to stomach. Like Jason Rekulak’s The Last one at the Wedding or Rachel Hawkins’ The Heiress but that’s got more gothic suspense vibes. A friend just loaned me a copy of Stuart Turton’s The 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle as she thinks I’ll like it. I’m coincidentally reading his book The Last Murder at the End of the World, but just started it, so it’s too soon to make a call on it. Have you read any of those? Which “gentle thriller” authors are your favorites? 😍
OK, great, I will do some research. I have read The Heiress which I liked (I love gothic suspense most of all) and The 7 1/2 Deaths--but got so confused I gave up. It was an interesting premise and many, many people loved it so I'm sure it's just me. I haven't read any of the others but will check them out, thank you. And let me think more about gentle thriller authors . . . I have some good ones to recommend!
Great! Looking forward to your recommendations. Yay!! You can of course put everything into a post or posts one for the bibliotherapy recs (that goes would the series you’re working on right now, correct?) & a post for the gentle thrillers as lots of us would benefit from that list. And I’d love to restack & share those posts with our bookish audience too. Ohhh, I’m so excited now for what you share! That’s too funny about 7 1/2 deaths will keep that in mind as I don’t do well with too many povs or timelines or too much of anything Lol! 🤣 I need things to be gentle hehe! Ok, have the most beautiful day. 😌
